Innovative optimization technology developed by Pi-Medical used for noise barriers design. An inverse planning concept was developed based on an objective function containing the sound level at defined receiver points, costs (based on barrier size), maximum height, and smoothness between
individual wall segments. Simulated annealing and gradient based optimization algorithms have been tested to minimize the objective function for a straight line source (street), distributed receiver locations and different constraint settings. The results will be presented at Inter Noise 2011, Osaka Japan, September 4-7 2011.
